Liaquat Ali
Khan was an Urdu Speaking Hindustani of the United Provinces (UP) of India but
he was born on 1st October 1895 in Karnal, East Punjab. Because the Jagir
granted by the British to the family of Liaquat Ali Khan was spread on the
Jumna River on the east in United Provinces (UP) and on the west in the east of
Punjab. Of the 300 villages in Jagir, 240 were in the United Provinces (UP) and
60 in Karnal, East of Punjab.
Grandfather
of Liaquat Ali Khan, Nawab Ahmad Ali Khan provided timely support to the
British Army in Karnal during 1857 rebellion. (Source-Lepel Griffin's
Punjab Chiefs Volume One). Father of Liaquat Ali Khan, Nawab Rustam Ali
Khan possessed the titles of Rukun-al-Daulah, Shamsher Jang, and Nawab
Bahadur, by the British Government. Liaquat Ali Khan's family had a special
relationship with the British Government and British government officials on the
visit to the United Provinces (UP) usually visited their large and spacious
mansion in Muzaffarnagar.
Liaquat Ali Khan was educated at Aligarh, Allahabad, and Exeter College Oxford
and he entered politics in 1923, being elected first to the provincial the legislature of the United Provinces (UP) and then to the central legislative
assembly. He joined the Muslim League and soon became closely associated with
Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
Liaquat Ali
Khan initially campaigned in the 1926 elections from the rural Muslim
constituency of Muzaffarnagar for the provisional legislative council of United
Provinces (UP). After taking the oath, Liaquat Ali Khan embarked on his
parliamentary career, representing the United Provinces (UP) at the Legislative
Council in 1926. In 1932, he was unanimously elected Deputy President of United
Provinces (UP) Legislative Council.
Liaquat Ali
Khan remained the elected member of the United Provinces (UP) Legislative
Council until 1940 when he was proceeding to the election of the Central
Legislative Assembly. In 1945-46, Central Legislature elections were held
in India and Liaquat Ali Khan won the Central Legislature election
from the Meerut Constituency in the United Provinces (UP).
