Election Results of 2008 By Caste.

The system of caste and tribes has always played a crucial role in deciding the political fate of Pakistan. Pakistan has as many as 18 major political castes and 7 minor political castes that decide the political fate of any candidate contesting the election. 

The tradition of voting for the candidate of one's own caste dates back to old times and has remained unchanged even in the general elections of February 18, 2008. A total of 268 candidates has successfully reached the National Assembly in 2008.

PUNJAB

Punjab has 150 National Assembly seats out of which 149 have been decided. On a seat in NA-119 in Lahore, polling was postponed because of a candidate's death.

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has bagged around 63 National Assembly seats, the Pakistan People's Party (PPP), 44; the PML-Quaid (PML-Q), 28; the PML-Funtional (PML-F), one. In addition, independent candidates have bagged 13 seats.

The 149 members of the National Assembly, who were elected from across Punjab, belong to various castes and tribes. 38 MNAs belong to the Jat (J) tribe; 19 come from Rajput (R) clan; ; Six of Jat/Rajput (Jr); 16 of Arain (Ar); 13 of Syed (S), 11 of Bloch (B); Eight of Awan (Aw); Eight of Qureshi (Q); Six of Kashmiri (K); Six of Pathan (P); Five of Sheikh (Sh); Two of Gujjar (G); Two of Abbasi (Ab); Two of Ansari (An); Two of Dogar (D), One of Mughal; One of Kakkezai (KK); One of Mayo and One each of Khatter and Lahr (local caste) respectively.

PML-N: Out of its 63 MNAs, 14 to R, Nine to Ar, Seven belong to J, One to Jr, Six to K, Five to S, Four to Aw, Three to Q, Three to Sh, Two to Ab, Two to B, Two to D, Two to An, One to G, and One each to KK and Mughal, respectively.

The Jat MNAs of the PML-N are Sahibzada Fazle Kareem (Faisalabad), Mehmood Bashir Virik (Gujranwala), Justice (r) Iftikhar Cheema (Gujranwala), Saira Afzal Tarrar (Hafizabad), Barjees Tahir and Bilal Ahmad Virik (Nankan Sahib), Tehmina Daultana (Vehari).

The candidates belonging to Jr are Malik Afzal Khokhar (Lahore). The candidates of Ar are Naseer Ahmad Bhutta (Lahore), Junaid Anwar Choudhry (TT Singh), Ayaz Amir (Chakwal), Sumaira Naz (Narowal), Muhammad Riaz (Lahore), Mian Merghoob Ahmad and Sardar Ayaz Sadiq (Lahore), Mian Javeed Latif (Sheikhupura), Saud Majeed (Bahawalpur). Those belonging to B are Saifudin Khosa (DG Khan), Arshad Khan Leghari (RY Khan). The K candidates are Abid Ali (Faisalabad), Engineer Khurram Dastgir (Gujranwala), Khwaja Saad Rafique, Omar Sohail Zia Butt and Bilal Yaseen (Lahore), Khwaja Muhammad Asif (Sialkot). The PML-N's An candidates Muhammad Akram (Faisalabad), Usman Ibrahim (Gujranwala). SINDH

There are total 61 National Assembly seats in the province and on one seat NA 207, elections were postponed due to Benazir Bhutto's assassination. The PPP has managed to secure 30 seats, 19 seats by the MQM, PML-Q has won five seats, three seats by the PML-F, two seats by the NPP, and one seat by an independent candidate.

60 MNAs belong to different casts, 16 of S, 16 of B, 9 of Sammat, Six of Sh, Two P, Two of R, Two of Mughal, two of Memon, One of K, One of J, One of Ar.

PPPP: Out of its 30 MNAs Thirteen belong to B, Eight of S, One of Sh, Five of Sammat, One of each Mughal, J and Ar respectively.

PML-F: Out of its three seats one is Syed and two are Sammat.

National People's Party (NPP): It has two seats and both are Baloch. B Muhammad Ibrahim Jatoi (Shikarpur) and Murtaza Jatoi (Naushero).

Independent: One is Sammat, Ali Muhammad Khan Mehar (Ghotki).

NWFP

There are 47 seats of National Assembly and on two seats elections were postponed. The ANP secured 10 seats, the PPP has won 10 seats, the PML-Q 5 seats, the PML-N has acquired 4 seats, the MMA obtained 4 seats, the PPP Sherapo won One seats while 11 independent candidates have won National Assembly.

PPP: Nine are Pathan and one is Syed, out of its 10 MNAs P Dr Arbab Alamgir Khan (Arbab), Eng Muhammad Tariq (Khattak), Abdul Akber Khan (Yousafzai), Haji Nisar Khan (Kohistani Yousafzai), Faisal Karim (Kundi), Najmuddin Khan, Malak Azmat Khan (Yousaf Zai), Lal Muhammad Khan (Yousafzai), Noor Alam Khan; S Syed Allauddin.

ANP: Seven Pathans, Two Syed and One Kalal (K) comprise its 10 MNAs

Out of Balochistan's 14 National Assembly seats, Four were won by the PPP, the PML-Q has secured Four seats, the MMA could bag Two, the BNP has bagged One seat and Three seats have been won by independent candidates.

PPP: Out of its four MNAs two belong to B, one to P and one to S. B are Umer Goragaje (Quetta) and Taj Muhammad Jamali (Nasirabad); P Dr Anayatullah Durrani (Kalat); S Syed Nisare Ali Shah (Q).

PML-Q: Out of its four seats three of B and one of P; B Mir Ahmdan Khan (Kohlu), Ahsanullah Reki (Kharan) and Jam Mir Muhammad Yousaf (Lasbela); P Sardar Israr Tareen (Loralai).

MMA: It has two P MNAs Molvi Agha Muhammad (Pashin) and Haji Rozudin (Kila Abdullah).

Independent: Out of three independent MNAs two belong to Baloch and one to Pathan. B Mir Humayun Aziz (Bolan) and Muhammad Usman Mengal (Khuzdar). P Molvi Asmatullah (Zhob)

BNP: It has one Baloch MNA Yaqoob Bizenjo (Gwadar)
