Sapta Sindhu is the old name of Punjab.

The ancient names of Punjab are;

1. Panch-aal (Sanskrit)

2. Panch-Nadd (Sanskrit)

3. Paenta-Potamia (Greek)

4. Punj-ab (Sanskrit/Persian)

Other related names for "Punjab Area":

1. Sapt Sindhu (Sanskrit - land of seven rivers)

2. Vaheek-Desh (From word 'Vahoona', as in Hall Vahoona, i.e; to work in the field, that means the land of farmers)

3. Madra-Desh (Puranic name. The country northwest of Hindustan)

4. Tak-Desh (Perhaps related to the country around Taksila)

The “Sapta Sindhu” as the name of the Punjab region is mentioned in the Rig Veda. The “Sapta Sindhu” means the land of seven rivers.

The seven rivers of the “Sapta Sindhu” region are;

1. Saraswati (thought to be the present-day Ghaggar)

2. Satadru/Shutadri (Sutlej)

3. Vipasa (Beas)

4. Asikani, Chandrabhaga (Chenab)

5. Iravati (Ravi)

6. Vitasta/Vet (Jhelum)

7. Sindhu (Indus)

The region of "Sapta Sindhu" is also called the region of "Indus Valley Civilization".

The river Indus was the part of Sapta Sindhu and the region of Sindh, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtun Khawa were the part of the Indus Valley Civilization.

Those people claim themselves as Sindhi, Baloch, and Pathan are alien people on the Land of Indus Valley Civilization.

Those people who claim themselves as Sindhi in Sindh are Arabic background and Baloch background people. They infiltrated and invaded Sindh. In a matter of fact, the original inhabitants of Sindh were Sammat. At present Sammat is under the political, social, and economic domination of Arabic background and Baloch background people.

Those people who claim themselves as Baloch in Balochistan are Kurdish background people. They infiltrated and invaded Balochistan. In a matter of fact, the original inhabitants of Balochistan were Brahui. At present Brahvis are under the political, social, and economic domination of Kurdish background people.

Those people who claim themselves as Pathan in Khyber Pakhtun Khawa are Afghan background people. They infiltrated and invaded Khyber Pakhtun Khawa. In a matter of fact, the original inhabitants of Khyber Pakhtun Khawa were Hindko. At present Hindko are under the political, social, and economic domination of Afghan background people.

The original Punjab region is now divided into several units:

1. West Punjab (now in Pakistan).

2. East Punjab (now in India).

3. Haryana (now in India)

4. Himachal Pradesh (now in India).

5. Union Territory of Chandigarh (now in India).

6. Regions of Kashmir and Jammu.

7. The area up to eastern Afghanistan such as the Gandhara/Kandahar region.

8. Regions of Sindh and Balochistan have also been historically associated with the original Punjab region. (The region of Sapta Sindhu, also called the region of Indus Valley Civilization).
